New Class Of Arctic Icebreakers To Strengthen US Coast Guard Capability
Davie Defense has finalized a $3.5 billion contract with the United States Coast Guard for the construction and delivery of five Arctic Security Cutters, a new class of Arctic icebreaker. The contract runs through February 2035, with the first ship to be delivered in 2028. The program forms part of the US government’s broader effort to expand the nation’s Arctic fleet and deliver a total of 11 ASCs. According to Davie Defense, this project will include up to $1 billion in new investment in the American shipbuilding industrial base, as reported by Marine News Magazine.
