Vienna-Based Startup GATE Space Develops Satellite For Defense Ministry

The Austrian Ministry of Defense is launching its first satellite, BEACONSAT, to detect and counter GNSS jamming and spoofing. The satellite, developed by Vienna-based startup GATE Space, is set to launch from a SpaceX Falcon 9 in 2027. BEACONSAT will be able to spot jamming and spoofing of position, navigation, and timing constellations, which are critical for both military and civilian applications. The project is being funded by the Austrian MoD and the European Space Agency, with additional support from ROI Ventures and Techstars.
