Transfer Of Terminal High Altitude Defense Program Sparks Debate
The US Army will soon officially take control of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile system, a program currently managed by the Missile Defense Agency. According to Lt. Gen. Frank Lozano, the Army’s Program Acquisition Executive of Fires, the transfer is expected to occur in fiscal year 2027. The THAAD system, made by Lockheed Martin, is a mobile air defense system designed to take out ballistic missile threats.
