Pilatus Partners with Lockheed Martin on Advanced Pilot Training System

Pilatus and Lockheed Martin Collaborate on F-35 Training Solution

Pilatus and Lockheed Martin have partnered on an offset project to develop avionics and training functionality for the PC-21 turboprop trainer, a platform used for F-35 and other fifth-generation aircraft training. The partnership aims to provide a bespoke pilot training solution for customers operating these aircraft. The Swiss government’s purchase of the F-35A and the offset agreement with Lockheed Martin have facilitated this collaboration. The project was approved by armasuisse in 2024 and the agreements were concluded during the summer of 2024. Pilatus CEO Markus Bucher emphasized the benefits of the partnership, while Lockheed Martin’s J.R. McDonald highlighted the importance of developing this pilot training capability. The Federal Office for Defence Procurement (armasuisse) also praised the industrial cooperation, citing its contribution to strengthening security-relevant technology and industry base.
