AEI Closes $75M Investment in Firefly Aerospace

Private Equity Firm Invests in Emerging Launch Vehicle Company

AE Industrial Partners, a private equity firm, has invested $75 million in Firefly Aerospace, a leading provider of economical launch vehicles and spacecraft. The investment will support Firefly’s growth and development of its launch and in-space solutions. The transaction values Firefly above its previous valuation of $1 billion. Firefly’s CEO, Tom Markusic, stated that the investment will allow the company to build on its momentum and position itself for future growth. The acquisition of Noosphere Ventures’ stake marks a new chapter for Firefly. Firefly performed its first launch of Alpha in September 2021 and expects to resume government relationships and launch its second vehicle in the second quarter of 2022. The company is also working towards finalizing its Blue Ghost lunar lander. AE Industrial Partners has a history of serving as a strategic partner to top national security agencies, including the Department of Defense. The firm believes that leveraging this experience will be a critical advantage for Firefly. Firefly is developing a family of launch and in-space vehicles and services that provide industry-leading affordability, convenience, and reliability.
